We specialize and are certified in many styles of cane and rush weaving, custom upholstery, antique restoration, commercial and medical upholstery, furniture repair . All chairs to be woven in rush or cane need to be structurally sound prior to weaving. If your chairs are not structurally sound we can perform this service for you

Upholstered furniture is a fun home decorative project that can give new life to and restores tired looking, worn or out-dated pieces of furniture. Anything that has upholstery can be re-upholstered, and furniture without upholstery can be upholstered, simply by adding padding, fabric, and pillows or cushions.

One of the best features of reupholstering your furniture is choosing your own fabric material and color. This enables colors to be matched or paired perfectly with other items in the home and can give a very expensive, custom personalized look to your home.

Tips

Choose upholstery-quality fabric over regular fabric
Choose stain-resistant fabrics that are specially designed for upholstery.
Upholstery fabric can be found at specialty upholstery shops and larger fabric stores
Leather and suede fabrics are more expensive and difficult to work with so take the extra cost into consideration.
Replacing fabric is also a good time to replace or upgrade cushioning, (only if necessary quality foam is expensive.)
All wood should be refinished or touched up before the padding and fabric are replaced.

Make sure your upholster replaces all worn out padding, spring ties, webbing, burlap, as well as frame repair as necessary.

On this page you will see examples of the different styles of cane work that we can help our customer identifly with. There are three types of canning and each one has a different application. I have put pictures in so that they can be enlarged to veiw. I also included an example of rush seating which is often mistaken for cane, we do both cane and rush seating.

SHEET CANING
Sheet cane is a pre-woven cane, the old cane and glue is removed , the chair is then cleaned and prepared for the new cane. the new cane is pressed in, the glue and reed are applied the cane is then trimed and the reed set. The best description of sheet caning is how a window screen is formed.

Hand caning
Hand cane is totally different from sheet cane, it is not pre-woven. The pattern in a hand cane chair has to be woven one strand at a time much like crocheting. The frame on a hand cane chair has holes drilled into the back and or seat. Chairs with the holes drilled only half way through the frame are called french blind cane, hand weaving still applies with short strands cut to size.
Rush seat
A rush seat is a hand woven seat using paper, fiber or reed rush. Rush is like a small cord or rope which is hand woven to form a chair seat.
